....and examining the spiritual and emotional impact of these fatal accidents.....
These "Think" signs are placed by the Department of Transportation in the state of South Dakota at the scene of fatal vehicular accidents. The signs, over time, aquire individual characteristics-the letters fade, the sign bends. Although the signs speak to the universality of death, just like the people that the signs represent, the signs are individual.
The initial images were obtained with digital photography. I went back and rephotographed many of the signs using film photography to allow mutiple exposures and to account for the reality of time passage, which you see in the mutiple exposures above. I wanted to bear witness to the fact that time continued after the event represented by the presence of the sign, and that there is an infinite continuum to our human existence.
